Family Scholarships to CWD's Focus on Technology Cincinnati Conference

The Diabetes Scholars Foundation will provide financial assistance for families from the United States to attend the Children with Diabetes Focus on Technology Conference at the Marriott North at Union Centre Hotel, from March 25 - 27, 2011 in West Chester, Ohio. The conference is a gathering of world-renowned clinicians, researchers, physicians, adults, children and families with diabetes. It offers many opportunities to gather information on the latest in diabetes care.

Family scholarships cover the cost of conference registration, hotel stay, and limited meals at the conference for up to a family of four.   Families must provide their own transportation to the conference.

What is Covered?

Each scholarship will cover the following expenses (for a family of up to 4 people):

  • Conference registration, which includes educational sessions, activities, and unlimited access to vendor exhibits
  • Meals during the conference, including Opening Reception ( Friday evening); breakfast, lunch and snacks on Friday and Saturday; Dinner on Saturday
  • One guest room (for up to four guests) for two nights
  • CWD conference t-shirt
  • What is Not Covered?

    The following items will NOT be covered under the scholarship:

  • Transportation to and from the conference
  • Meals not outlined above
  • Incidental charges (i.e., phone, room service, etc.) incurred during the stay. Each recipient will be required to provide the hotel a credit card for any incidental charges.
  • Expenses for extended family members and/or friends.
  • Who is Eligible?

    The Foundation seeks to award conference scholarships to families from the United States with at least one child who has Type 1 diabetes, age infant to 18.

    Eligible families must complete a typed application (not handwritten), postmarked by February 5, 2011. Applications will be evaluated based on the individual family's:

  • Interest in better caring for their child with diabetes
  • Enthusiasm for sharing their diabetes knowledge with others in their community
  • Track record of involvement in diabetes education outreach
  • Financial need
  • Each family must have at least one child (age infant to 18 years old) who has type 1 diabetes.

    Recipients are expected to attend a full complement of educational sessions and other events held during the CWD conference. This includes a total of 8 sessions (four on Thursday and four on Friday).  Additionally, you will be asked to complete a brief written evaluation of the conference and the scholarship program at the conclusion of the conference.

    Applicants will be notified via e-mail when their application is received.  Young adults that are awarded a scholarship will be notified no later than May 15, 2011 via e-mail. Applicants must furnish email addresses in order to be notified. Scholarship funds will be disbursed directly to Children with Diabetes to cover conference costs. The Diabetes Scholars Foundation will make hotel reservations for the scholarship families.

    The Foundation reserves the right to award additional scholarships, after the deadline and notification dates, if funds become available.
